New Store Wine Arrivals
2003 Brunello di Montalcino Offer
It is time again for the new vintage of Brunello
pre-arrivals. The 2003 Brunello vintage is four out of five
stars. It was a warm one, making for wines that are big and
ripe yet better structured than one would have expected.
More accessible than the 2001 vintage, these are wines that
will age well over the next decade, yet many will drink
great in the short term. The wines in this offer represent
some of the more classic houses and the number one Brunello
producer from 2001 and 2003, Valdicava.

Always killer wine, of which there is never enough, this
2003 shows an intensely expressive nose of smoke and
scorched earth along with layers of sweet dark red fruit
that unfold onto the palate with outstanding length,
complexity and polish on the finish. The wine Spectator
review; "Enticing aromas of meat and mushroom pie mingle
with rich plum and spices. Full-bodied, with silky,
caressing tannins and intense fruit and mineral flavors.
Well-crafted, finishing long. The flagship Brunello in 2003.
The wine of the vintage. Best after 2010. 2,800 cases made.

Our introduction to the wines of Sandro Chia was through his
Morellino di Scansano and we were hooked; anxiously awaiting
the release of his Brunello. Good vineyard work and pruning
helped maintain an excellent balance of fruit and acid in
the high vineyards during the hot summer. This pretty and
elegant wine opens with a delicate, expressive nose of
flowers and many spices intermixed with eucalyptus. It
displays attractive juiciness and length on the palate, with
sweet notes of macerated cherries and tobacco supported by a
medium to full bodied frame ending with fine, silky tannins
and a long, satisfying finish.

The 2003 Brunello di Montalcino from Canalicchio, shows what
the "home boys" Francesco & Marco Pacenti Ripaccioli can do
when the sun of a hot Summer comes and goes. The classic
garnet color is followed by the equally recognizable aromas
of plums, tar, and leather, and the powerful, lengthy,
mineral-laced flavors indicate's this is a wine built to
age.

The 2003 Brunello di Montalcino from Friggiali’s deep garnet
color is accompanied by a big, sweet nose of melted asphalt,
truffles, tobacco, leather, and glorious quantities of red
currant and black cherry fruit. Dense, ripe, layered, and
sweet, this is one 2003 Brunello that lives up to the
Sangiovese's reputation. The Wine Spectator review; "Bright,
beautiful aromas of blackberry and dark chocolate follow
through to a full body, with lots of fruit and a vanilla,
coffee and berry aftertaste. Best after 2010." 90 points

We always need wines that maintain that connection with the
soil and that’s always been our sense of Donna Olga; that
is, besides the tremendous, focused fruit of the 2003.
Always elegant, structured, dense and velvety on the palate
you can not mistake this vineyard. The Wine Spectators’s
notes; “Very fresh on the nose, with crushed berry, mineral
and mushroom. Full-bodied, very concentrated and chewy.
Long, rich and layered.”91 points Wine Spectator
